Maritime - Inland waterways sector
The inland waterways sector plays an important role for the transport of passengers and goods and for the sustainable social and economic development of many countries, especially landlocked countries. Inland water transport is an environmentally sustainable mode of transport and, being underexploited, presents great development potential. Inland water transport workers are key workers and are essential for the safety and environmental sustainability of the sector. They are faced with unique living and working conditions which require special consideration by the ILO with a view to achieving decent work in the inland waterways sector.
