Panels

First panel

According to the first volume of the ILO publication, the initial presentation will focus on analyzing the impact of trade and trade policies on decent work from an economic perspective. It will present a framework that combines various methodologies and a wide range of decent work indicators, with the aim of assessing the relationship between trade and labour in a more comprehensive manner. This will be followed by concrete examples of the effects of trade in specific countries, with a particular focus on the region.

Second panel

The second presentation will examine the role of trade and investment instruments in addressing labour market issues, drawing on the second volume of the ILO publication. It will detail how labour provisions in trade and investment agreements, laws prohibiting certain imports, unilateral trade instruments, and due diligence practices can promote decent work in the region's supply chains. In addition, the session will discuss the potential implications for businesses and workers.

Both presentations will be followed by comments from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), as well as a question and answer session.
