About METI

The overall objective of the programme is to support the policymakers in the Southern Mediterranean region to better incorporate employment consideration into trade and investment policies.

This will support the design and implementation of trade and investment interventions that ultimately optimize the quantity and quality of employment creation in the region.

The programme is also facilitating the operationalization of the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+) which aims to support inclusive and sustainable development of the EU’s Southern Neighbourhood region of the European Union. It aims to boost public and private investment to create more jobs and higher growth and work towards meeting other UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The target groups are government officials from Ministries responsible for Trade and Investment, Labour, Economic Affairs, Planning and other relevant line Ministries; staff in National Statistical Agencies; representatives from Trade Unions and Employers’ Organizations; private sector representatives; technical specialists from National and Regional Institutions and development practitioners.

The final beneficiaries are workers (especially women and youth) and employers, (in particular SMEs,) in the tradable sectors.
