Sustainable and Resilient Enterprises Training of Trainers in Botswana
The Bureau for Employers' Activities of the ILO (ACT/EMP) and the International Training Centre of the ILO support the the development of the Sustainable and Resilient Enterprises (SURE) program in Botswana
27 January 2023
Through this program, Botswana Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) were assisted to be better prepared for any adversities that their enterprises can face. These could be pandemics, cyberattacks, natural disasters, economic upheavals, and social disruptions. Twenty people were trained at SURE Training of Trainers programme. These trainers were drawn from training institutions, and some are independent Business Development Consultants. Around 100 enterprises were trained and assisted to develop their business resiliency strategies by these trainers.
The SURE training programme seeks to strengthen the capacities of SMEs to prepare, respond, and adapt to the impact of hazards or unexpected events through crisis management planning and tools. SMEs that participate in the SURE training programme develop Business Resilience Strategies that are tailor-made to their unique business profile and risk exposure. With its focus on business resilience, the SURE methodology goes a step beyond classical business continuity planning and introduces aspects of business adaptation, digital transformation and staff development to help SMEs become agile, shore up vulnerabilities and build the necessary human elements that are key to business resilience. The SURE program thus addresses emerging need of resilience amongst SMEs especially post COVID 19 where most SMEs were negatively affected.
